The Best Of The Best

Updated: Nov 27, 2024

The new 911 Carrera T has just been revealed which sits between the Carrera S and and GTS but it is not known for just having a higher spec avaliabilty - god no. The Carrera T (though some people who have no clue about cars may say it is slower) is the the only current 992.2 911 that comes with a manual gearbox. Though the PDK is an incredible piece of engeneering, nothing beats a car as light and nimble as a 911 to be accompanied with a gear stick leaving you and the machine alone to relive the original pure feeling of a 911.

Performance:

The Porsche 911 Carrera T comes with a 3.0 litre twin-turbo flat 6 producing 388BHP (perfect amount for a 911) that can reach 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and reach 183 MPH - but none of that matters in a 911. What really matters in a 911 is that you can take it to the office at 8 AM in the morning, have a relaxing easy drive to work, leave at 3 PM (because you own the company) and have a fantastic flat 6 sing its symphony on the sunny back lanes - after experiencing that, you will fall in llove with the 911 and it will become (like me) your favourite car on the planet. But, what has always trouble me about the GT3 and the GT3 RS is that they seem to fast, loud and obnoxious to really enjoy that pure driving experience - who cares about lap times when you have a narrow country lane and a manual 911?

Aesthetics:

Below is the new Carrera T and though I would probably spec it slightly differently, you can still enjoy and respect the shape that this car uses. The ever reminiscent 911 shape paying homage back to 1963, the subtle yet incredibly intelligent air vents and the best part - no jagged protruding edges, letting the cars shape be beautiful, smooth and satisfying.

The rear end here most certainly looks better than some other specs that I have seen. Personally, (other than the original 911) I think the best looking, best sounding generation is the 991.1 but on the aesthetics round, this car could be very high up on the ranking. The big swooping lightbar has always been something that I liked introduced on the pre-facelift 992, slats in the engine cover which personally I prefer the 991.1 horizontal slats but the vertical slats do look very good and disguise how long they are.

Now, I like this car so much that I think we must include the cabriolet version. Though this may not be faithful to the 911 roots, sadly we are turbocharged (unlike the 991.1) so we have already crossed the line on that one so what harm can a lack of a roof cause. Personally, I have always preferred the coupe 911 but lookng at this convertible - I do not know if it is the lack of stripes or the more intresting colour - I adore it and think this is THE 911 in the 992.2 lineup. Easily the coolest part is the six-speed gearbox illuminated on the floor - look how cool that is!

The interior as always with a 911 is just incredible. The option of leather or alcantara on everything, the optional stitching where ever you look and let us not ignore the Carrera GT inspired wooden gearstick.

Price:

My love for Porsche (and not just their cars but aslo their non rip-off prices) will never stop because if you want this mid range car it is only £111,000 for coupe or £121,000 for cabriolet. I am not just saying this, but on sale today there is not a car for this price that I would rather have. Do not get me wrong, this is a lot of money but in this day and age you are paying these figures for some Land Rovers!

So, in conclusion throuhgout writing this I have fallen in love with the 911 Carrera T and if you have the funds - I suggest you go and buy one. I love when 911's pay homage to the original generation but if you have a turbocharged engine, you may aswell go for the car that you want so I would go cabriolet. So convertible 911 in dark green, but sadly there is no option for truffle brown interior, would be my conclusive decision if you are looking for your next fun daily driver.

Porsche 911 Carrera T Scores:

Looks = 9/10

Drivability = 10/10

Luxury = 9/10

Power = 10/10

Future/Current Classic= 10/10

Total = 48/50

Looks = 9/10

This car just looks brilliant with its simple yet elegant styling that has been perfected over the past 60 years.

The sense of pure intelligence comes from this car when you look at it and do not reallt see any performance enhanced bodywork on it but it still works perfectly.

Drivability = 10/10

This is a Porsche not a Ferrari, it will always have the correct amount of power to just drive so easily and be such a nice feeling to control.

The RWD system that is fitted on this model is used all the way up to the GT products so that assures you it is incredible.

Luxury = 10/10

As expected from Porsche this cars interior is impeccable, luxurious and comfotable for a saloon car let alone a sports car.

Power = 10/10

A 911 does not need power, the weight handles it all so giving it 380hp was the perfect decision from Porsche to allow full control of this car.

Future/Current Classic = 10/10

This car is absolutely destined to be a classic and it has all the characteristics of the original 911 so there is no reason it could not join it in being a classic.

Overall Score = 48/50
