Not As Similar As It Looks

Updated: Nov 27, 2024

The new Mclaren 750S is a very pretty car but many critics do say that it is just the same as the old one and no difference has happenend. Wrong. Very wrong. If we look back to the old Mclaren line-up, we can see that all the way from the 12C to the 600LT all the cars were very reminiscent of one another so this is just Mclarens styling language and we have to look at it like they want us to and then it becomes a very pretty car. I know that I am banging on about this but look at Porsche, they have spent the last 60 years making the 911 as perfect as it can be sticking with similar styling through the generations - but when Mclaren starts doing it everyone calls them lazy!

Performance:

The Mclaren 750S gets a mid mounted 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 producing a simply maniacal 750 PS over the past 720S producing, you guessed it, 720PS. This may sound mental in a car that is RWD and that is true but this car has some of the most areo-focused styling I have ever seen.

Aesthetics:

Yes, it does look very similar to the 720S, but is that a bad thing? All that Mclaren have really done to the 750S for styling is just make it more areodynamic. It just looks so poised and ready to absolutely fly. In this colour, I really like the front bumper, it being painted really just makes the car look more prestige and luxury than the previous just black colouring did. The 19 inch front wheels look absolutely phenomenal not to mention the deep-dish style rear 20's.

Though this is not the same photo from the rear angle, we get a better look at a different spec. This angle really displays the difference between this car and the 720S, much more aggresive and lots of cooling surrounding the brake lights and exhaust. A slightly larger spoiler also sets of that aggresive theme for the car over its predecessor.

Interior:

Looking at the interior, we have a very 'tailored to the driver' setup with all screens and buttons set up much easier for the driver to access than the passenger. In this photo, we can see the non-carbon seats (which I think are better) meaning that this car instantly becomes more of a tourer than a supercar as you would be able to drive four hours without you teeth rattling out your mouth or your spine popping out through your head. I must admit, the combination of leather and alcantara really set a prestige, luxury feeling over the car.

Price:

The Mclaren 750S will set you back £254,320 as standard with no options added to the car which looking at it like that, we are talking 296 territory before options but once you get a ncie spec going you will probably reach around £300,000 but still more than a nicely specced 296.

So, what is this car? Well I really feel like this car is the 570S and the 720S is the 540S. Basically look the same and people may get confused often but it was just a way for Mclaren to make more power and they could not just change their existing car so they bought out a more powerful version just to exhibit their potential. I have always liked Mclaren but something about their current lineup gets me really excited, they have a car for every fast occasion and I love that! I really think this car is not only a future classic but also an incredibly good car for today. You could daily drive it, track it or simply just look at it - whatever you do it will reward you.

Mclaren 750S Scores:

Looks = 7/10

Drivability = 7/10

Luxury = 7/10

Power = 9/10

Future/Current Classic = 8/10

Total = 38/50

Looks = 7/10

It does look very similar to the previous iterations of this car but that is no bad thing.

This car is very pretty at the front but then extremely aggresive twist at the rear which is a great piece of styling.

Drivability = 7/10

Thought this car has 750ps, it still puts its power down very well, but it will often try to bite back at you.

Luxury = 7/10

The interior is somewhere in between Lamborghini and Porsche, much better than Lamborghini but just a bit too rugged and bare to be on par with Porsche.

Power = 9/10

The subject that this beats any other car in its category at is the power, producing 750ps as oppose to the Hurucan having a "feeble" 602hp.

Future/Current Classic Car = 8/10

This along with the 720 and 765 will be very sought after cars in the future that were the underated rocket ships lots of people ignored on the way to Ferrari.

Overall Total Score = 38/50
