People Do Not Really Understand This Car...

The brand new Ferrari hypercar is out, replacing the LaFerrari but people are not too happy about the choice of engine. The Ferrari LaFerrari had a hybrid naturally aspirated V12 which was absolutely incredible but when Ferrari revealed the next installment in the Ferrari hypercar line - people were not happy about a V6. But I will come back to that soon, one thing that I do think is that Ferrari currenlty has a very strange design language that is shared across the entire model range but I absolutely love it - it creates a really futuristic look for the car. It can only go one of two ways - age really well or be hideous in the future.

Performance:

Now, the Ferrari F80 has come equipped with a plug-in hybrid V6 making an insane 900hp and I am aware what Enzo Ferrari said "areodynamics are for people who can't build engines" but though we do not have many cylinders - this engine is bloody good. You may of heard about a vehicle called the Ferrari 499P. In case you have not, it is Ferrari's 24 hours of le mans car and for the past 2 years they have smashed the field and won them both. Why do I mention this? Well the Ferrari F80 has been given the excact same engine but tuned slightly, so buying this car is like driving a road legal Le Mans car - not a bad deal.

Aesthetics:

Oh my sweet lord, whatever you are doing Ferrari - keep doing it. The front is very reminiscent of the 12Cilindri with the black stripe across the bonnet (I am sure it has a proper name) which I think helps create the illusion that this is a race car version, thus why I think the engine fits so perfectly. Nobody dislikes butterfly doors and we have some bigguns on this car and next to those are some of the best wheels I have ever seen on a Ferrari - very much paying homage to the 458 Italia from a few years ago.

It really does just keep getting better. Six louvers in the "rear window" which I think perfectly set the tone for aggresion that this car is going for, along with that the spoiler which I am not the biggest fan of but is nicer than some other options. Finally, I just love how long this car looks - I really think when people undertsand the engine, it will become one of the best looking and most important modern Ferraris of all time.

Interior:

Now, I have already spoken about my thoughts on Ferrari interiors and how haptic touch never works and no one wants screens. However, looking at this I do find it quite cool. The main drivers screen display is incredibly similar to the LaFerrari's which I really quite like and l love how the silly gear selector is actually angled towards the driver - with that placement I genuinly do not mind it.

Price:

Why not? I mean why not charge £3.1 million for your hypercar! There will only be 799 examples of this super cool machine each costing £3.1 million, sadly they have all sold out but I really cannot imagine this car holding £3 million for a very long time, more like £1 million at the maximum.

So, what we have here is a futuristic Le Mans car for the road with a simply unbeliveble price tag. I think this car will be a classic in the future once people learn that it is literally the engine out of the 499P, but I cannot see this car holding £3 million for a long time at all and in a short while be worth half of that.

Ferrari F80 Scores:

Looks = 10/10

Drivability = 6/10

Luxury = 3/10

Power = 8/10

Future Current Classic = 7/10

Total = 34/50

Looks = 10/10

Incredible design language being used on this and the 12 Cilindri with just pure aggression, road presence and areodynamics in mind.

The side silohouette has massive connotations of being like its engine donor (the 499P), all to benefit the areodynamics as much as possible.

And finally the rear end, pays massive homage to the Ferrari SF90 with its rectangular brake lights which i think perfectly match the aggression of this car.

Drivability = 6/10

Not the best score for the electronic systems that always kicks in to control the car have you feeling like a passenger just watching a computer driving the Ferrari.

Luxury = 3/10

Haptic touch and screens really do not do it for me, not only the knowledge of how badly they age but also how dangerous they are to try and find a setting whilst driving.

Power = 8/10

We have 900HP which is the perfect amount for a Ferrari of this pedigree at the top of the model range.

Future Current Classic = 7/10

I think this will have to be a future classic as that is just a given for hypercars like this but unless they are left in a collection and never driven, I can see the value going down very quickly.

Overall Score = 34/50
