Overpriced But Very Very Cool

in 2016, the world lost a truly iconic car - the Land Rover Defender. After 67 years of production it had come to a close in the pursue of a promise to keep up with the latest tech and not be left behind. So what came in its place? Well in 2020 the world saw a modernised, fast and sensible car come along taking the Defender name but it always felt as though it was more of a Range Rover with a tougher badge. Until now.

Options and Meaning:

This is the Land Rover Defender 110 V8, with the chose of a twin-turbo 4.4 litre V8 from BMW that makes a staggering 518 horespower, or a 5.0 litre V8 that creates 518 horsepower. Now this is not what an original Defender was made to do, you would never see this working on a farm the same way you would never see an original Defender in Chelsea but times have changed and at the end of the day JLR (Jaguar Land Rover) need more money so making this car to branch out to anyone in the market for a big brute of an SUV was a good idea.

Aesthetics:

Looking at the Defender, I must admit to begin with four years ago i though it was too 'cheap' and 'plasticy' inside and out but all this time later it has most certainly grown on me. The headlights that create an evil presence for the car that follwos it, the satin grey accents creating the feeling of this being a very detailed luxury car, plenty of air vents that probably do not do anything but it just works so well on this car.

The rear end is absolutely brilliant. Double square lights on either side present a rugegd and robest feel to the car, only to be met with the almost supercar-like quad exhaust tips. I think this comes together to make the perfect mix of both worlds, loud and bold exterior with the super cool exhuasts partnered with the spare wheel holder (which no one buying a V8 will use), rugged rear lights and side opening tailgate.

Interior:

The interoir is very nice and minimalist but i just have to say it simply is not enough. It worked on the old car because that car was a properly rugged offroader and it suited it but for the price tag that this car presents (which i shall mention later) it is unacceptable. It looks very nice but if you are entering top-spec Cayenne kind of money wiht full alcantara and leather and in this corner we have plastic and some metal - it is crazy.

Price:

Now comes the outrageous part. The price. Well, the base 110 starts at £60,000 which in itself is a LOT of moeny especially for a Defedner but i suppose if we view it as a even more offroad-able Range Rover we can write of the cost but for a V8 it is just crazy money. For the Defender 110 X (which is the V8) with nothing on it we are already at a figure of £97,650. Once you equip a few nice opetions we are more talking £110,000 and for a Defender! For that price you could get a fully specced Alfa Romeo Guilia Quadrofoglio, brand new Range Rover or even if you want more of a sports car - a 911!

Looking at this then, really is a very good car, yes it will probably never be used on a farm or ever touch a bit of dirt but the car itself really is a gooden. Rugged, brutish exterior, comfortable relaxed interior and a bloody good engine but the price is simply too much. Does it live up to the true Defender name? I do not think so, but if we forget the name i think it is a brilliant car but just with a greedy price tag.
